Smog Laws
« on: November 24, 2007, 12:01:18 AM »
Automobiles older than 30 years old are exempt from California smog requrements, both domestic and imports.  Check the "build date" date.

Be sure to check the laws in your state so that we can get all the 1978 and earliers cars on the road!

Hi Jack,

I was told something different by DMV in California regarding SMOG and older cars.  I was told that SMOG testing applies to all cars 1975 and newer.  I was also told that the 30 yr old rule that we used to go by no longer exists, and that it won't be reinstated.  I hope that you are correct though, because I have a '79 MGB that is giving me fits regarding SMOG testing.  I recently took it to the SMOG referee and got a 2 yr waiver because no one seems to be able to make it pass.
